About the province of Prince Edward Island
Prince Edward Island is in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, off the Atlantic Coast of the Canadian mainland. Prince Edward Island is the smallest of the Canadian provinces. The Island is only 224 km (139 miles) long and between 6 km and 64 km (four and 40 miles) wide. The Island is known for the vivid colours of its gently rolling landscape. White sandy beaches are predominant along the northern shores while red sandstone cliffs edge its southern exposure. Approximately 60 percent of the island’s population (138,000) is rural, with just two cities, Summerside and the provincial capital, Charlottetown.

Weather and Climate
Spring is comfortable. Late May and early June are alive with colour and temperatures usually range from 8 to 22 degrees C (46 to 71 degrees F). Summer is hot, but rarely humid. We wear short sleeves. Daytime temperatures are usually in the 20s (70s) and can go as high as 32 degrees C (90 degrees F). Autumn is clear and bright. September afternoons can be quite warm, evenings cool. Temperatures range from 8 to 22 degrees C (46 to 71 degrees F). Winter is crisp and clean. Temperatures usually range from -3 to -11 degrees C (26 to 11 degrees F).
