Mayfest – Community BBQ and Charity Event
Our annual Mayfest Day is a community involvement day where we invite families to join us for a free BBQ where Bob is the head chef and burger tosser! This free fun filled family event includes a petting zoo, paint ball shooting, jumping castle, pit stop challenge and much more. Owasco matches any donations collected at Mayfest with the total funds being given to the Lakeridge Health Foundation. Thank you to everyone who came out this year, we hope to see you next May!!

Lakeridge Health Foundation
Owasco was more than happy to contribute and participate at the InspirEVE Annual Gala for the Lakeridge Health Foundation. Owasco is known for always looking for ways to give back to the community and inspire others to do the same. The funds raised at this gala have been earmarked to support the building and outfitting of a new Interventional Radiology suite at Lakeridge Health which will help double the number of procedures and significantly reduce wait times.
The gala was successful in raising over $207,000 which will be put towards providing better, faster and safer care for all patients. We were more than happy to be part of this event and look forward to future events in helping out the community.
Northumberland’s Hills Hospital
Owasco was more than happy to contribute to the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation. This was the first time that Owasco took part in this Gala and we were glad to help raise funds which will be used to purchase lifesaving medical equipment for the hospital. This year was especially great because the gala was able to raise the most funds on record and we were glad to be a part of it. Owasco doesn’t only just give back to the Durham Region community but we also extend our arms to neighbouring communities and we look forwards to reaching out more.
Town of Whitby/Salvation Toy Drive “Stuff A Bug”
Once again this year, Owasco Volkswagen together with the Town of Whitby, provided a New Volkswagen Beetle for its annual Stuff-a-Bug campaign. Many years ago, Bob came up with an idea of stuffing a car with toys for the kids in need, he even included the best infant to toddler car seat unit. Starting with Whitby’s Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony held at Celebration Square, followed by participating in Whitby’s Santa Claus Parade, the Stuff-A-Bug is then parked at Iroquois Park Sports Complex where it remains inside for people to stuff the car full of toys.
This campaign is so successful and recognized by the people of Whitby that in the last few years we have had to empty the car several times to accommodate the volume. In addition to the toys, food is also collected and in partnership with The Salvation Army all proceeds are distributed to less fortunate families within the Durham Region.

Owasco’s purpose of their participation of this great event and charity is to raise money for children and youth with physical disabilities across Ontario. Easter Seals helps kids BE KIDs and your support is integral to our success! This event is for anyone who loves a to play a great hockey game for an amazing cause, and this is anyone’s chance to play with friends, family, colleagues, and some of hockey’s greatest players.

This year we were glad to give the “Clean Player” award to Lauren Lomer! We wish her and her family all the best in his future endeavors.
The Rotary Park of Port Perry thanks Owasco for our valued support at this years Spring Gala on Saturday April 23rd. The event was a great success and raised over $47,000!
Owasco Audi participated in their Annual “Stuff an Audi For Santa Toy Drive”. Owasco Audi set up a New Audi Q3 at the Oshawa Tree Lighting Ceremony, as well as at the Oshawa Civic Centre during the month of December. Owasco asked the Durham Region to bring any unwrapped Christmas Gift to be donated to the children of women who are assisted by The Denise House. Owasco would like to thank the Durham Region for all of their gracious donations, and providing hope to the less fortune during the Holiday Season.

In honour of the launch of the Fire Safety Beetle the Whitby Fire Firefighters were educating the public on safety during Fire Prevention Week October 3rd-10th.
Owasco Auto Group & PHS Electric Car
Owasco Auto Group provides assistance to Durham Region High Schools, in providing educational tools and donations to help build and shape the young minds of the Durham Region. The Owasco Auto Group contributed $1000.00 to the Pickering High School Automotive department. The generous donation, has been put towards the continuing research and construction of the Pickering High School’s electric car project. Owasco Auto Group is pleased to hear that the Electric Car Project has proceeded extremely well, and the first test run was a success!
Durham College Marketing Advisory Committee & “DCMC”
Bob Verwey is a long standing member of the Marketing Program Advisory Committee for the local Durham College. This Committee represented by faculty, students and business people, ensures that the programs are in line with what is required for today’s young people to enter the work force. A program is in place at the dealership to supply local schools with unwanted tools and equipment for their shop needs.
Share Life
Owasco has partnered for many years with the Share Life organization providing vehicles for the Hole in One Challenge at their annual Golf Tournament. Bob has done door to door canvasing for his church to support of share life.
Relay for Life – Canadian Cancer Society
We are one of the biggest sponsors equaling Canadian Tire, CTV news and TD Bank for the Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life Oshawa. Owasco is the official Survivor Sponsor at the Oshawa Relay, where Bob speaks from the heart about those touched by disease. When Owasco started working with the cancer society on the relay for life well over 10 years ago; very little money was being raised. Oshawa Relay alone now raises in excess of $500,000 each year. Owasco also enters it’s own Relay team consisting of employees and members of their family. The company received a long standing award for our support in the Relay for Life from the Canadian Cancer Society.

Hospital Foundations
We provide free weekend and weekly rentals of vehicles as prizes at many fundraising events throughout the year, ranging from local fashion shows to major Hospital Foundation Gala’s; Rouge Valley Hospital Foundation, Lakeridge Health Foundation and Bowmanville Hospital Foundation. Thousands of dollars are raised to benefit these foundations to support research and purchase equipment. We are currently supporting the Rouge Valley Hospital Foundation at their Gala in their efforts to purchase MRI machines.
City Of Oshawa’s Civic Recreation Complex
Owasco Audi & Audi Canada are proud partners of the City of Oshawa. Owasco Audi is the first corporate sponsor of the renewed Civic Recreation Complex. Under the four-year partnership, Owasco Audi & Audi Canada will hold the naming rights to Field C in the new Civic Recreation Complex Fieldhouse, an international FIFA-size artificial turf playing field.
In addition to investing in the community, the Corporate Partnership Program offers recognition and value added opportunities. With this partnership Owasco Audi is also able to offer use of this fine facility to its service customers (See Service Advisor For Details). We are encouraging our customers to visit and take advantage of the excellent amenities available at the complex.
The six-field Civic Recreation Complex is a premier sport training and competition facility. In addition to the new fieldhouse, facility amenities include: six-lane pool; fitness centre; four indoor tennis courts; two international squash courts; international-level track and field facility with stadium seating for 2,000, scoreboard and press box; and six meeting rooms including a tournament convener room. The family friendly facility also features a new outdoor accessible children’s playground, as well as the ‘Rec Room’ – an activity room with computers, large screen TVs; and gaming consoles.
Owasco Audi & The Denise House
Owasco Audi partners with The Denise House during the Holiday season, to raise gifts for the children of the Denise House. The Denise House is a local community women’s shelter that has helped more than 15,000 women and their children making a change in their life. Owasco Auto Group has been involved in community support services, fundraisers, foundations and charities since 1975.
Best Buddies Challenge
Owasco teamed with Audi Canada participating in the first, Best Buddies Challenge, a 5k/10k run in Toronto which raised money for the Best Buddies Organization. Bob ran his first and probably last 10K in true Verwey style. Owasco was recognized by Audi Canada for the highest number of participants, consisting of employees and their families. This was a very proud moment for all concerned.
Mother Teresa Missionaries of Charity
Owasco donates a large sum each year to the Mother Teresa Missionaries of Charity, which is an organization of Global Missionaries founded by Mother Teresa. It is a humbling experience that Bob shares each year with a staff member when they go to present the cheque which provides help for the poorest of the poor. Vehicles are also provided (when needed) for the sisters to be transported to special events.
Movember Fundraiser Event
Owasco employees participated in the Movember fundraiser event in order to raise money for prostate cancer. Members in this event grew facial hair for the month of November in order to gain awareness and support over prostate cancer. Owasco was also involved in this event by matching donations raised by Owasco employees.
Owasco employees raised a total of $2,270 in this event.
Owasco Inc. contributed another $2,270 for the Movember cause.
Overall Owasco Raised $4,540 in the Movember Event.

Drive 4 Dollars – Lakeridge Health Oshawa
Owasco is one of the few dealership members that are participating in the Drive 4 Dollars Campaign. Owasco has contributed a generous donation towards raising money for the CT Scanner for Lakeridge Health Oshawa. Owasco will also donate money towards the CT Scanner on every test drive or vehicle purchased at Owasco during the Drive 4 Dollars Campaign.
